My name is Heather Redfern and I am currently a student of the International Development Studies program at the University of Toronto Scarborough, specializing in environment and politics.
I’m extremely excited to say that in just under two months, I’ll be arriving in Nepal to begin an 8-month placement with Uniterra as a Sector Research and Analysis Officer. I can’t wait to get started and apply the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained over the past 3 years to this position, as well as learn from this incredible experience. My role as a Sector Research and Analysis Officer will begin as part of a team of 5 or 6 interns, who along with other Canadian and Nepalese professionals, will conduct research and analysis on the planned economic sub-sectors of the Uniterra program in Nepal for 3-4 months. Once this project is completed, I will transition to working with one of Uniterra’s partner organizations, hopefully in the field of nature resources of agriculture for the remainder of my time in Nepal. I’m really excited for this position because it’s a great opportunity to combine research and practice!
Before leaving, I’m doing my best to learn as much about Nepal as I can to be prepared for life in my new home. As a Canadian entering a new country, my goal is to embrace the people I meet, learn from the challenges I will encounter, and humble the lessons I will learn. I am incredibly privileged and fortunate to have this opportunity, and cannot wait to begin this new chapter of my life.
