About Andrea Pre-Vietnam

March 16, 2015

I’m a senior political science student at the University of Ottawa, with a particular passion for food and agriculture. Originally from rural southwestern Ontario, I have made a happy home in the nation’s capital and am enamoured with the support, the visions, and the multiple personalities that bring it to life. I am an intricate pile of thoughts, and ideas, and ambitions with a willingness to try just about anything. I am an action oriented and community driven young professional who emphasizes quality relationships and genuine interpersonal skills as the bedrock of success. I have a hole host of personal interests and passion projects that range from mental health advocacy to writing, and from baking to Bikram and beyond.

In the summer of 2015, I’ll be interning as a Program Assistant for the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) in Hanoi, Vietnam. SRD is dedicated to working with disadvantaged communities in mountainous areas, assisting them to improve their quality of life and manage their resources sustainably. SRD is implementing development projects in 10 provinces across northern and central regions, focusing on 2 major themes: climate change and sustainable agriculture; SRD is also leading different advocacy initiatives and networks of NGOs in Vietnam. I am looking forward to coupling my passion for agriculture and relationship building at the international level throughout my experience with SRD and hope to complement my existing knowledge of agricultural policy and gain the valuable not-for-profit experience that will feed my aspirations for a career in international food security.
