Botswana burning…..Not quite…. it’s only our rubbish pile

I got to the centre this morning and the first thing out of Sepho’s mouth was a very surprised “Mama Sandra!!!”  They’ve never seen me in jeans and a T-shirt going to work so their surprise was genuine.  I even walked with my shovel and rake from Kathy’s.  Thandi and I got started with the…

Checked out organic garden

This grey water system is so fascinating to me that I really think that we can install one at the centre and make it work.  At the same time, we can make a garden at the back in an area that I think was supposed to be a spot for collecting and burning leaves but…

Results day

I wish I had something interesting to say about today but the day was a totally blah day or it certainly felt like that.  This morning I had a couple of surprises waiting for me.

Learning about grey-water systems

First I have to mention about last evening’s dinner theatre at Gaborone Sun.  Kathy and I went to the hotel and it looks very much like the old colonial hotels in Guyana complete with the wicker furniture.  It was quite lovely and looked very elegant.  I think it has a rating as a 5 star…

Planning for Okavanga Delta and Chobe

I went to the travel agent in Riverwalk mall today to see if I could get a quotation to go to the Okavanga Delta as well as Chobe Park.  They gave me a quote last week and I needed to make some adjustments to the schedule.  I came away no closer to confirming an itinerary. …

Finally some business cards

I found a flyer today and by coincidence, there was an advertisement for business cards.  The price was very good – 50 pula (about $10) for 100.  I then had to use a magnifying glass to read the small print which said

Brrrrrr – very cold!!!!

I am trying to send some files today but it’s not working.  The files are large and the internet is not cooperating.  I made a template for some business cards.  A set of cards were created but they are printed at the centre one at a time and with the choice of colours, it’s very…

My anniversary – 36 years

I’m sort of celebrating my 36th anniversary today.  I say sort of because ….

Eating mopane worms – not exactly yummy

I don’t know how I forgot to mention this but last week I tried Mopane worms which everyone here eats.  They sell the dried worms (caterpillars really) in the markets and you can eat them just like that as a sort of snack or re-hydrate them and cook them in tomato sauce with onions.  I…
