Botswana in August!

My name is Marie-Christine Gareau and I am from Montréal, Québec. I hold a Bachelor degree in Psychoeducation and I have been working with kids with special needs for more than 4 years. I am presently completing my Master degree in Management of International Development and Humanitarian Action. This internship is a great opportunity to develop and put forward my skills in management, and also my experience working with kids and other groups of people with difficulties.

In a few weeks, I will be volunteering in Botswana, during 4 months, as a Program Assistant for the organization Stepping Stones International (SSI). This organization is an after-school program and community outreach working with orphaned and vulnerable teenagers. My mandate will be to assist the local staff in the development of various modules in the program, and also, in the implementation of some activities. Despite the fact that I don’t know much yet on SSI, it seems that this organization uses a holistic model, and so the program offers life skills training for the teenagers, psychosocial support, expression program, etc.

I am glad to go back to Africa for the second time, and to have the opportunity to learn more about management in NGO’s. I believe that this internship position will draw upon my studies in management as well as my interest in human interaction !
