Pre-Departure: Final Destination Malawi

Hello there!

My name is Natalia Ivaniv, and I just finished my 3rd year of the Global Political Economy Degree at the University of Manitoba!! I am so excited, and to be honest a little nervous, to embark on a journey to Mzuzu, Malawi!

In just a few short weeks, I will be taking the plunge to partner with the Mpoto Dairy Farmers Association and I could not be more thrilled. This opportunity is opening a door for me, as student, to take what I have learned in academia and use the skills I have gained from past work, to reach the next level of personal growth.  I am looking forward to not only experiencing Malawian culture, but to also get know the amazing people that I have heard so many great things about, in order to develop relationships which I hope to hold onto for the rest of my life.

This will be my first time working abroad, and I truly believe this will be the beginning to the many new adventures that I hope to encounter as I get to know the global community.

You will surely enjoy the experience, being someone from Malawi and Mzuzu being the major city in the north, where I happen to come from. Tumbuka is our major language, you can get a few important phrases from ( . You will enjoy the weather, the evergreen landscape, our national parks and of all our beautiful lake. Unfortunately no snow :). I can imagine the feeling. I was privileged to experience snow for the first in Waterloo Canada.
