Malawi, Here I Come!!

Hi there!

My name’s Nicole (everyone calls me Nikki) and I’m currently doing my Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) at the University of Waterloo. I have a strong environmental background with a diploma in Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Recreation and a degree in Geography/Sociology.

I’ve been extremely fortunate and have had many opportunities to travel abroad for school, fun, and of course, development work. My most recent trip was in February for a week to Trinidad and Tobago with my Sustainable Water class, where we learned first hand about water security on both islands.

In a couple of days I will be heading off on my next adventure to Malawi as a Sector Research and Analysis Officer. I am unsure as of yet as to where I will be stationed but whether it be in the capital of Lilongwe or the other large city, Blantyre, I know it will be an amazing and unique experience.

My love of travel and the environment are what fuelled my interest in the development sector. I believe that incorporating environmentally sustainable themes and practices into development work is key in economic growth and I look forward to seeing how and if we are able to manage that in the upcoming project in Malawi.

I am so excited to meet new people, learn new skills, and partake in all the potential experiences that arise in Malawi!
