Pre-Departure: Off to Malawi

My name is Sarina Bhaiwala and I am a Journalism and Human Rights student at Carleton University. I am beyond excited to be spending my summer as a communication and documentation intern with Uniterra in Malawi!

I am passionate about the interconnectedness of human rights, development, social justice advocacy, and journalism. I think people remember stories better than anything else. Stories let people connect, empathize, and sympathize with individuals they have never known and will most likely never know personally. I am looking forward to working with Uniterra and partner organizations to produce these types of stories in addition to documenting development efforts. It will be refreshing to finally witness firsthand the concepts I study in the classroom on a day to day basis.

I cannot wait to experience the “Warm Heart of Africa”. I will be sure to embrace everything Malawian culture has to offer.

Here’s to an amazing and unforgettable summer!
